The 2019 International Fly Fishing Film Festival at Allenberry

Pa. Fly Fishing Event, IF4, Arrives at Allenberry

On October 26th, 2019, Allenberry Resort and TCO Outdoors co-hosted the International Fly-Fishing Film Festival, or IF4, for the very first time in Cumberland County history. The collection of short films from the nation’s foremost fly fishing talents along with the visionary directors that captured their adventures all over the world.

“The International Fly Fishing Film Festival consists of short films produced by professional filmmakers from all corners of the globe, showcasing the passion, lifestyle and culture of fly-fishing.” – IF4

Geoff Vukelich describes his story in depth for the audience in attendance.

A Special Guest from Minnesota

Fly fishing enthusiasts from around Central PA gathered in the Playhouse for an evening of amazing fly fishing stories captured on film.  Geoff Vukelich, owner and master craftsman of Dam Goods and Gear in Duluth, Minnesota, joined us after the showing to talk about the film, “Bigotry to Brook Trout”.

“‘Bigotry to Brook Trout’ features Geoff’s transformation from a life of ignorance and hate to quiet solitude on the waters of northern Minnesota. Hard truth and honest self-reflection parallel the beauty of Fall brook trout in this rare display of vulnerability and acceptance. Geoff owns his past and speaks his truth, reminding us that we have the capacity to change our lives.” – Film synopsis from the trailer’s Vimeo page

Geoff answered questions about fly fishing, and his personal journey after the collection of short films had ended. When asked by attendees if he had anything that he wanted people to take away from his story, Vukelich responded, “Don’t always follow already-made paths. Instead, make a trail where a new and adventurous path could be.”

The IF4 crowd enjoys the collection of short films.

After the film festival, attendees gathered around The Cellar bar for an intimate gathering enhanced with a limited dinner and cocktail menu. Here, they had an opportunity to meet Geoff Vukelich in a more casual and personal setting. Representatives from our fly fishing partners, TCO Outdoors and Relentless Fly Fishing, were also in attendance, raffling off an Echo fly fishing rod for a lucky winner after the show.

Folks met in The Cellar after the showing to share their own fly fishing stories.

Those Who Made it Possible

We want to thank all of the attendees who came out to this year’s IF4 and our friends at TCO Outdoors and Troegs Independent Brewing Co. Be sure to stop out at one of TCO Outdoors’ four locations located in Reading, Haverford, State College, and of course, Boiling Springs.

Troegs Independent Brewing helped make this event possible by sponsoring this year’s showing of IF4. They even handed out complimentary Troegs pilsner glasses to all of the attendees!

Additionally, we’d like to extend our thanks to the filmmakers of IF4. Their hard work and dedication in collecting and hosting this past year’s best fly fishing stories always push the sport forward in an important way.

A family smiles as they gather in The Cellar after the IF4 showing.

Finally, we’d like to thank Geoff Vukelich for bringing his passion and vulnerability all the way from Minnesota to meet our attendees. Follow Geoff’s company on Instagram (@damgoodsandgear) to stay up-to-date on what Geoff is working on next.
